The 21st GCSM conference is delighted to welcome you to its venue at the University of Bologna (UNIBO). Founded in 1088, UNIBO holds the distinction of being the world's oldest university with uninterrupted teaching activities. This major European educational and research institution is home to over 97,000 students, nearly 9,000 of whom are international, and a dedicated faculty of 3,300 professors and researchers. UNIBO's research is multidisciplinary, focusing on innovation and sustainability, with particular expertise in fields such as law, medicine, engineering, chemistry, agricultural sciences, environmental studies, and humanities. Impressively, UNIBO has secured 800 patents and fostered 58 spin-offs and start-ups. The conference itself will be held in the historic Augusto Righi Department of Physics and Astronomy, conveniently situated in the city centre, a short walk from both UNIBO's main offices and Bologna's central square.

How to Reach Bologna and the Conference Venue
The nearest airport is Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ), located approximately 20 minutes from the city center. The airport offers frequent international and domestic flights. Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ) offers frequent direct flights from major European hubs.
Attendees traveling from outside Europe may find it easier to fly into a larger international hub such as Milan Malpensa (MXP) or Rome Fiumicino (FCO). From Milan or Rome, high-speed trains (Frecciarossa or Italo) provide efficient connections to Bologna:
- Milan → Bologna: approximately 1 hour 5 minutes
- Rome → Bologna: approximately 2 hours 15 minutes
Trains run frequently throughout the day, and tickets can be booked online in advance. From Bologna Centrale train station, recommended accommodations and the conference venue and are easily reachable by taxi, bus, tram or on foot.
